One source, "Genealogical and Personal History of the Allegheny Valley - Vol 1" by John Woolf Jordan, lists Phillipe's name as Phillip. Reportedly there are records in Essex Co, England that show this spelling as well.
Note: There is a burial record for a daughter named ANNIS KELLOGG, which reinforces the idea that her mother had the same name and spelling. Older KELLOGG sources usually show PHILLIPE'S wife's name as being unknown, but more modern sources (access to Essex Co. records) tend to identify her as this person.
PHILLIP KELLOGG first appears in Bocking, Essex County, a parish adjoining Braintree, on 15 September 1583, when his son, THOMAS, was baptized. Two years later he was in Great Leighs, where his son, ROBERT, was baptized in 1585, the first time that the name KELLOGG appears in the registers of that parish. Baptismal records for all his children have not been found, as is shown by the burial of his unrecorded daughter, ANNIS, in Great Leighs, on 25 May 1611. The registers of Great Leighs exist back to 1558.
A search of the Court rolls of Great Leighs fails to reveal the name of KELLOGG, though researchers need to continue to check for other spellings common in his time (CELLOUG, etc.).
No record of his death in Great Leighs has been found, and since the records of Great Leighs are quite full, it is probable that he did not die there. He may have removed to Braintree and had other children, but the records of Braintree extend no farther back than 1660 and the earliest known date of a KELLOGG in Braintree was in 1623, when Moses Woll mentioned PHILLIPE'S son, ROBERT, in his will.
