Nicholas Kellogg (or "Kellhogg") was probably born about 1488. He was the husband of Elizabeth Hall (daughter of William Hall). Burial occurred on 17 May 1558, therefore he must have passed away very shortly before 17 May 1558 and not necessarily on the same day.

Note: Hopkins, Timothy. The Kelloggs in the Old World and the New, Vol. I. San Francisco, California: Sunset Press, 1903.

His parents' names are unknown, however his name appears on a tax list for Essex County in January 1525 and a "William Kellogg" appears on the same tax list.

Many families with his surname lived in Essex County from times earlier than 1525. Braintree and Great Leigh (in Essex Co.) were the seats of different branches of this family, often with the name spelled as variants such as Cellidge, Kellock, Kehlhogg, Killhog, Calaug, Cologe, Kellogue, Kelhogge, Coolidge, and others.

Nicholas Kellogg married Florence Hall, daughter of William Hall, on 4 Oct 1515 in Debden, Essex Co., England.

Their known children:

1) William Kellogg, buried in Saffron, Walden on 2 Feb 1578.
2) Thomas Kellogg b. aft. 1506 d. 17 May 1568.
3) John Kellogg b. 1519

Nicholas was buried in Debden on 17 May 1558 and Florence was buried there on 8 Nov 1571.

Note: The Rev. Day Otis Kellogg, Jr., formerly of the U.S. Consul in Glasgow, Scotland, was an early collector of Kellogg data. He believed the family were supporters of James VI of Scotland and accompanied him to England when he ascended the throne of Great Britain as James I, 24 March 1603.
