James "Audrey" Gladfelder, age 92, of Centerville, Iowa died Friday, February 20, 2004, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of Delbert William and Nora Z.(Hiatt)Gladfelder on May 4, 1911 in Rural Appanoose County near Centerville. He received his education in a Rural Appanoose Country School.
On April 16, 1939, Audrey was united in marriage to Marietta "Ruth" Stevens in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked as an Assistant Manager of a grocery store, then was a Trucker, later worked at a Parts Department in a local Implement Dealership and finally retired from the McGraw Edison in Centerville as a Foreman. He was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Velma Bankson; brothers, Verl, Russell and Robert Gladfelder; son-in-law, Richard Parris.
Audrey is survived by: his wife, Marietta "Ruth" Gladfelder of Centerville, Iowa; son, Roger and His wife, Joyce Gladfelder of Bloomfield, Iowa; daughters, Sandra Parris of Ottumwa, Iowa and Karen and her husband, Dennis Westphal of Marshalltown, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Glen Gladfelder of Centerville and Claude Gladfelder of Delta, Colorado; sister, Mary Campoli of Rockford, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 10:30 am at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial will follow in the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 from 1-8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Drake Avenue Christian Church.
