Marietta "Ruth" Gladfelder, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at Golen Age Care Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of William O. and Martha A.(Rice)Stevens on July 16, 1914 in Exline, Iowa. Ruth graduated from Centerville Community Schools and later received her Normal Training Certificate.
On April 16, 1939 Ruth was united in marriage to James "Audrey" Gladfelder in Des Moines, Iowa. Prior to marriage she taught at a country school and then later became a homemaker. She was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James A. Gladfelder on February 20, 2004; brother, Vernon Stevens; sister, Vera Gladfelder; and son-in-law, Richard Parris.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sandra Parris of Ottumwa, Iowa and Karen and her husband Dennis Westphal of Marshalltown, Iowa; son, Roger and his wife, Joyce Gladfelder of Bloomfield, Iowa; grandchildren, Jack Lee and his wife, Judy McGrann of Centerville, Iowa; Wes Gladfelder of Bloomfield, Iowa; Melissa and her husband, Terry Starr of Bloomfield, Iowa; Troy Westphal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six great grandchildren and on sister, Dorothy Maitland of Rockford, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday April 6, 2006 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be Wednesday April 5, 2006 from 1-8 pm at the funeral home. Family will receive friends on Thursday April 6, 2006 from 10 am until the time of services. Memorials can be made to the Golden Age Care Center Activity Fund.
