Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family or the Iowa Hospice of Muscatine.
She was born November 23, 1921, in Purdin, Missouri, the daughter of Charley and Dolores (Taylor) Maxwell. On May 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Herbert F. Atwood in Trenton, Missouri.
Edna and her husband owned and operated Edna's Caf? in Riverdale, Iowa, for 31 years, retiring in 1993. She will always be remembered for the delicious "comfort" food she prepared and served to her many loyal customers over the years. She was a member of Community of Joy United Methodist Church of Bettendorf.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Shirlene (Jack) Hoots of Riverdale; her son, Herbert Janeil (Kathie) Atwood of Riverdale; her grandchildren, Kevin (Jaime) Atwood of Moline, Illinois, Aaron (Shelly) Hoots of Bettendorf, and Kimberlee (Brad) Robertson of LeClaire, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Viola Lambert of Monroe, Iowa, Nerene Baskett of Brookfield, Missouri, and Lila Forbes of Brookfield, Missouri; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 10, 2010, and her parents.
