Elizabeth "Beth" Shuler Wampler, 76, of Harrisonburg died Sunday, February 5. 2012 at Oak lea of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Born on October 6, 1935 in Elkton, Virginia, Beth was the fourth child of Fred Amos Shuler, Sr. and Alma Beatrice Comer Shuler, both of whom preceded her in death. Beth graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1953 where she was Senior Class President and from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1957 with a BA in English. On April 19, 1957 she married Richard Bond Wampler of Elkton at Shenandoah Christian Church in Shenandoah, Virginia.
An avid gardener, artist and pianist, Beth was involved in a number of organizations and clubs. A realtor since 1974, whe was awarded Realtor of the Year in 1985, opened Harrisonburg Real Estate with husband Richard in 1987 and retired in 1992. An active member of Ashbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, Beth was a long-time member of the choir and Women's Society of Christian Service, the Massanutten Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as Chaplain, the Retired Navy Officer's Wives Club, James Maddison University Lifelong Learning Institute, the Shenandoah Valley Quilters Guild, and served as a Docent for the Virginia Quilt Museum. Beth was a former member of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club. She enjoyed traveling, the arts, and playing bridge. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Beth is survived by her husband of 54 years, Commander Richard Bond Wampler (USN-Retired), daughter Bonnie Wampler Young and her husband David of Alpharetta, Georgia and daughter Lisa Wampler Ladisic and her husband Michael of Atlanta, seven grandchildren; Megan Elizabeth Young, David Bradley Young II, Madison Katherine Young, Clara Marie Ladisic, Annie Elizabeth Ladisic, Rachel Beatrice Ladisic, and Margaret Katherine Ladisic brothers, Charles F Shuler of Elkton, Virginia, Fred Amos Shuler, Jr. of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and Dr. James M Shuler of Blacksburg, Virginia. Sisters, Mary Frances Shuler Johnson of Lynchburg, Virginia and Mrs. Herbert M (Eva) Holtzman of Alexandria, Virginia, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
An 11:00 a.m. memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Ashbury United Methodist Church, 205 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Immediately following the reception, a private ceremony for the family will be held at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 7600 Port Republic Road, Port Republic, Virginia.
