Maria was born in New Jersey in September 1857. She had six brothers and sisters. She initially lived in Cinnaminson New Jersey which is in Burlington County.

By 1870, she and her family had moved across the river to Philadelphia. When they lived in New Jersey, her father, Charles P. Bates worked on a farm. When they moved to Philadelphia, he and his oldest son became watermen.

Eugene Faunce and Maria met and were married about 1875. By 1880, they had two children, Mary Elizabeth Faunce and David F. Faunce. Mary was born in May 1878. She married, had children and died at the age of 58. David, born in Feb 1879, only lived 8 months and was buried Palmer Cemetery. They were living at 1110 Ash Street in Philadelphia.

While they were living on Ash Street, my grandmother, Ella Mae was born on Feb 1 1882. Their second son, Eugene Walter Faunce was born in Oct 1884. He also did not live long and died on Apr 22 1885 and was buried in Bellevue Cemetery in Philadelphia.

She and Eugene were divorced by 1895 and she married Sylvester Post. They had 2 children. She died on May 25, 1901 and was buried in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.
