John is the son of William L. and Elizabeth VanHorn Stevenson. He was born on April 14, 1876 in Camden, New Jersey. John and Ella lived at 440 Glenwood Avenue in Philadelphia in 1910 where John work at hot pressing on farming implements. By 1918, they had moved to Newfield, Salem County, New Jersey. For the most part, they lived in Gloucester County, New Jersey for the rest of their lives. They had nine children, 8 boys and my mother. The children were William Frank Stevenson, John Ashfield Stevenson, Richard Charles Stevenson, Wilbur Stevenson, Harry Knopf Stevenson, Charles Wesley Stevenson, George VanHorn Stevenson, David Ruch Stevenson, and Elizabeth Marie Stevenson.
Along with her children, Ella raised her half brother Charles Henry Post when her mother died in 1901. Also living with the family was her brother-in-law, Richard VanHorn Stevenson. John died in 1950, sometime after September 1. Ella died on July 29, 1952, from a perforation of her aorta due to a carcinoma of the esophagus. She and John were interned at the Porchtown Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Porchtown, Gloucester, New Jersey.
