Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Tiahrt Abrahams, 80, of 817 Cherrydale St.
will be at 4 p.m. today, Jan. 9, in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel.
The Revs. Wilbur S. Brown, Rodger Moyer, Jack Hoof and Albert Dodd, will
officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Abrahams died at 10:05 p.m. Monday in a local hospital. She was a
native of Beatrice, Neb. Mrs. Abrahams came to Lake Charles in 1918 and
taught at the Burleson School south of Lake Charles. Of special interest to
Mrs. Abrahams was her work with the Women's Christian Temperance Union
and its affiliated youth group. A member of the Bible Missionary Church, she
was a Sunday School teacher for many years working with various age
groups. She was active in the Women's Missionary Circle in her church. Survivors
include three sons, Robert J. Abrahams of Sulphur, James Abrahams of
Lake Charles and William H. Abrahams of Farmers Branch, Texas,; five
daughters, Mrs. Daniel V. Hoffpauir, Mrs. Doris Pettit and Mrs. E. Waddell
Burge, all of Lake Charles, Mrs. William C. Palmer of Summerfield and
Mrs. Billy J. Bertand of Moss Bluff; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
If they wish, friends may make memorial donations to the Beulah Mountains
Children Home, Box 4, Beulah Heights, Ky., the family said.
