Doris A. Strahan, 85, passed away at Landmark of Lake Charles. The daughter of John Henry and Gertrude (Tiahrt) Abrahams, she was born in Lake Charles, LA. Doris married Paul Pettit and later divorced. Together they had two children Robert “Bob” and Trudi. Doris married Jim Strahan in April, 1984, he passed in March, 2014. Doris will be remembered as a fun-loving, adventurous lady. She was a talented singer, oil painter and poet. Doris was a devoted mother to her children and loving grandma to her grandchildren and step grandchildren. She retired from the Conoco oil refinery in Lake Charles. Her children will be forever grateful for the sacrifices, hard work and determination she displayed to provide a better life for them. Doris and Jim enjoyed their many vacations traveling from state to state in their RV. She was very involved in the Baker Presbyterian church, where she sang in the choir, directed Vacation Bible Schools and many other community activities. She volunteered countless hours at the church’s food pantry along with her dear friend Joyce Hebert. She is survived by her daughter, Trudi Bergland and husband Don, daughter-in-law Cynde Pettit Fetzer and husband Brent, grandchildren Trent, Derek and Jordan Pettit, Mitchell and Greg Bergland, three great grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Pettit and Zoey Bergland, her sister Alice Bertrand
and husband Bill, brother Bill Abrahams and wife Charli, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Robert Wayne Pettit, stepson James Strahan, brothers Bob and Jim Abrahams, and sisters Edith Hoffpauir, Bettye Palmer and Grace Burge. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Thursday August 9th at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baker Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.
