James M. "Mart" "Puzzle Man'' Boone, age 81, of 400 West South Street, Abingdon, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born October 29, 1918 in East Galesburg, the son of Kendrick L. and Flora Norris Boone. He married Dorothy McElroy on June 28, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Butch (Connie) Rawlings, R. R. Abingdon; two brothers, Herbert T. Boone, Urbana, and Galen Boone, Italy; one sister, Irene Long, Bloomington; two grandsons, Pat (Jenny) Rawlings and Kip Rawlings, both of Abingdon; and two great-grandchildren, Branson and Brittany Rawlings, both of Abingdon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended Farmington High School.

He had lived in the London Mills and Abingdon areas most of his life.

He worked for the former M & St. L Railroad & former CB & Q Railroad. He later worked as a mechanic at the former Studebaker & Nash Garages in Galesburg and the former Cruiser Garage in Abingdon. He last worked at the former Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg from 1952 until retiring in 1979.

He served in the Army during WW II with the 474th Engineers in the Persian Gulf Command.

He was a member of the former London Mills American Legion Post and a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381.

He was a member of the former Abingdon Boat Club.

Funeral services were held at the Abingdon Cemetery with Eleanor Landon officiating. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 381.
