Alexander MacKenzie was born near Tain, Scotland - close to the ocean. At 18 years old he and a friend set out sailing ships. After a stormy 3 month voyage they arrived in Galt, Ontario. They had stayed here 3 yrs. working for the railroad and saving money when setting out to purchase land they walked up the Garafraxa Rd.(HWY 6) & into Egremont Twp. where Lot 9, Conn.7 caught his eye. In due process he purchases 100 acres at $2.00 an acre. After clearing the land and building a log home he sent for his parents; James & Elizabeth, brothers Charles & John, and sister Elizabeth from Scotland.Sisters Margret & Bell were born here in Canada. Alexander married a neighbor, the sister of his friend..'Mary Calvert'. They had 6 children - Elizabeth (Williams), Rachel (Long), Mary (Smeaton), James, Isabella (Jones) & John before her untimely death at 33 yrs. of age on March 6,1874. Alexander later married again; another neighbor - 'Sharlott Ketch' on February 22, 1876. Together they had the following 5 children..Alexander, Wm. Benjamin, Sarah, Ethal and Charles.

Cause of Death: "Cancer of the Stomach".

NOTE: Alexander McKenzie was born in Ross & Cromarty Shire Scotland (near or in the town of Tain) to James McKenzie and Elizabeth (Betsy) Ross. The baptism was at near-by Kilmuir-Easter church.
