ELISABETH STAPPER was born in 1837 in Village of Lank, East Prussia in the District Heiligenbeil, and died on 28 Sept 1897 in Cibolo, Guadalupe County, Texas. Her grandaughter, ELIZABETH GUENTHER MICHEL, said that her grandmother died on the day she was born; said date September 28, 1897. She was born in 1837 according to census records and her siblings birthdays.

PARENTS: CARL JOSEF STAPPER was born May 26, 1800 in Nierst (auf Brunsgut); Village of Lank in East Prussia; died February 10, 1863 in Cibolo, Guadalupe County, Texas; buried in Stapper Cemetery located off Interstate 10 on Trainer-Hale Road. He married HELENA MARIA 'GERTRUDE' SCHMITZ on 5 Feb 1826 in Lank. She was born December 18, 1805 in Ilberich (Gut Isselshof); died June 30, 1887 in Cibolo, Guadalupe County, Texas; buried in the Stapper Cemetery. The Stapper family sailed from Bremen, Germany; destination was the Port of New Orleans during the fourth quarter of 1850(October 23)aboard the ship,'Ocean Queen'.

Note: The beginning of Schertz, Texas: Originally, it was called CIBOLO PIT. The Southern-Pacific Railroad had a spur to a gravel pit in the Cibolo. Flood waters rushed straight across and cut off the gravel pit. When the first post office was established in May of 1882, it was named CUT-OFF. Then in 1899 the post office name changed to SCHERTZ.
