NORMA RUTH ARNOLD WAS THE DAUGHTER OF OTTO AND DELLA LEE MANIS ARNOLD.

SHE MARRIED GEORGE THOMAS ALLEN ABOUT 1950. GOD BLESSED THIS MARRIAGE WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN - BARBARA, LARRY AND MICHAEL.

SURGOINSVILLE – Norma Ruth Arnold Allen, 75, Surgoinsville, affectionately known to everyone as "Nan" passed peacefully to her heavenly home on March 1, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.

Nan and Tom lived their entire marriage on their farm in Stanley Valley while Tom worked as a millwright at AFG. Nan was a homemaker and ran the dairy farm business including, milking and selling to Kraft. She was an avid football and NASCAR fan. Growing up, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Surgoinsville. After her and Tom's marriage in 1950, they joined Long Hollow Primitive Baptist Church where she was one of the oldest members. She also attended Lafollette's Chapel Church. She was a member of Order of Easter Star Fairview Chapter 80.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Allen, Jr. (11-7-08); her parents, Otto and Della Lee Manis Arnold; brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Arnold

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Edwards of Surgoinsville; son, Larry Allen and Paula Collins of Kingsport; her special son, Michael Allen and grandson, Cody Allen (who moved in to help care for Nan when Tom died. She loved having them with her). She is also survived by other grandchildren, Angie Camley (special caregiver), Christy Hamilton and husband Charles, Shawna Allen, Krista Linkous and Brandon Linkous; great-grandchildren, Devon and Jazylnn Hamilton all of Surgoinsville; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and James Sandidge of Surgoinsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Lillian Arnold, Reed and Shirley Arnold all of Surgoinsville, Kenneth and Ruby Arnold of Mt. Carmel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willie and Edith Crawford; special brother-in-law, (who took her to doctor's appointments), Fred "Shorty" Allen; special niece and nephew, Kathy and Jerry Linkous and a number of other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN. Friends may also call anytime at the residence or the home of the daughter, Barbara Edwards.

An Eastern Star service will be at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The funeral service will follow with Elder Harold Head officiating. Prayers and comments will be given by Brother Ray Edwards and Pastor Chuck Lowe. Music will be provided by Ginger Waters, Jessica Davis, Patrick Bruner and Dillion McKee.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral by 11:00 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners, the church or charity of one's choice.

Special thanks to the 6th floor and ICU Nursing Staff, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Boyd, Dr. Keith Kramer, Dr. Pushkas Gopolan, IPC Hospitalist, Case Management, and everyone at Mt. Region Family Medicine, Park Drive who were family to Nan and special friends, Jerry and Betty Walters.
