Clothing Store pioneer Altman dies at age 84

F.B. Altman, 84, of 1802 Sayles, co-owner of Altman's clothing stores, died Friday morning at Humana Hospital - Abilene.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Dr. David Hamblin and the Rev. Alvis Cooley will officiate.

Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott¬Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Born in Hico, he was reared in Loraine and graduated from North Texas Agriculture CoIlege, now University of Texas at Arlington. He was the principal of the Buna Elementary there.

He, his father (Sidney Altman) and an uncle ( Wylie Futhy Altman) opened their first store in 1920 in Abilene. They then opened a store on Pine Street in the late 1930's. They also owned stores in Cisco and Eastland.

He was a member of the Rotary club, Paul Harris Fellow and St. Paul United Methodist Church. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in California for three years. .

Survivors include his wife, Marion Chambless Altman; two sisters, Edith Terry and Mrs Sidney Lee Robertson, both of Cisco; a number of nieces.
