Joseph W. Van Zon, 72, of 1425 N. 9th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning, May 2, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Philip Hoffmann and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Van Zon was born Nov. 12, 1909, at Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Joseph T. and Mathilda Simmer Van Zon. He moved to Manitowoc as a child with his family, attending Manitowoc schools. He was graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1928. He married Ione Hubbard, Oct. 23, 1937, at Gillette. Mr. Van Zon was employed for 40 years at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, retiring in 1975. He was a foreman at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Kiwanis Golden K Club of Manitowoc, Manitowoc Eagles Club Aerie No. 706, and the Management Club of Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company.
Survivors include his wife, Ione; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Judy Van Zon of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Warren Wagner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lucille and Thomas Husar of Route 4, Appleton; two sisters, Lucille Senglaub of Manitowoc, and Florence Montague of Milwaukee; eight grandchildren, a great grandson, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday where a Kiwanis Golden K memorial service will be at 7 p.m. and a vigil service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by Deacon William Klein.
