Confederate officer. He was born at the Hermitage to the adopted son of President Andrew Jackson. Died of wounds recieved at the Battle of Chickamauga.

Captain Samuel Jackson; Co I 44th Tennessee Infantry-Samuel Jackson was born on June 9, 1837 to Sarah and Andrew Jackson, Jr. in Hermitage, Tennessee. His father was the adopted son of former 7
th President of the United States Andrew Jackson. He was third of five children. He grew up working on his father's farm until the late 1850s when he settled his own.-Samuel would leave his farm life and enlist with Co. I, 44th Tennessee Infantry on December 30, 1861 at age 24. He was commissioned 1st Lieutenant shortly after. His first major fight would be at Shiloh on April 6, 1862. The 44th would lose 74% of the 470 engaged; 378 men. Samuel would miraculously come away unscathed. He was elected Captain of Company I on April 18, 1862. After Shiloh, on April 19, the 44th consolidated to the 55th Tennessee Infantry. Both units had loss over half their strength and now had a combined total of 489 men. He would go on to fight at Munfordville and Perryville where the 44th again received heavy losses. In November, the 44th was consolidated with the 25th Tennessee Infantry to regain numbers. Samuel was engaged at Murfreesboro where he was shot in the hand and was taken from the field. He was taken to a field hospital and then sent to the army hospital at Marietta, Georgia. He remained there until May 1863 when he was released and sent back to duty. He would fight one last time on September 19, 1863 at Chickamauga where, while rallying his men, was shot in the torso. He was carried taken from the field and quickly sent back to the army hospital at Marietta. He died of his wound thirteen days later on October 2, 1863. He was 26.His body was taken home to Hermitage, Tennessee to be buried in the Jackson Family Cemetery.
