Lewis Elmer Hill was born in a farm home near Coal City, in Grundy County, Ill. His parents were Joel and Margaret Hill. At the age of 14 years he moved with his parents to a farm 2 ½ miles east of Dexter.

On March 11, 1914, he was united in marriage with Cora Fett of Dexter. The young couple established their first home on a farm south of Dexter. Two children were born to the marriage union. Martha, now Mrs. Joseph Smith, of Earlham, and Marjorie (Mrs. Clyde McMullin), of Redfield.

Most of his life the deceased was engaged in the occupation of farming. In 1941 he moved to the town of Dexter where he had purchased an oil station and which he continued to operate until the time of his death.

Surviving mourners, in addition to his widow and the two children named above, include his aged mother, Margaret Hill; one brother, James Hill, of Dexter; and four grandchildren, Willis Smith, Mary Jane Smith Allsup, Patricia and Jeffrey McMullen. Two sisters, Gladys, who died in infancy and Mrs. Edith (Harvey) Payton, and a brother, Ernest, preceded him into eternity.

In the year 1917, the deceased became a member of Zion Lutheran Church by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and the rite of confirmation. He remained a loyal, active member of the Church until his death.
