Obituary:

Miss Mary Purcell Dies At Milltown The funeral of Miss Mary Johanna Purcell who died Wednesday at the Chipman Memorial Hospital, was held at the home of her brother Dennis Purcell to St. Stephen's Church, Milltown. Friday morning with a requiem Mass celebrated by the Very Rev. M.J. O'Brien. Her six nephews, Raymond Purcell, George Purcell, Jack Purcell, Mac Purcell, Maynard Purcell and Clarence Dougherty were pallbearers. Two nephews, Gerald and Maynard Purcell, were altar boys and PHILIP MCGARRIGLE, another nephew, assisted the choir.
Miss Purcell, a life long resident of Milltown, was the only daughter of the late JOHANNA (BRESNAHAN) PURCELL and DENNIS PURCELL. She was a central figure in town, and her keen sense of humor and ready wit made a wide circle of friends. Although in failing health for over a period of time, she was only ill two days when the end came. She was an employee of the St. Croix Mill of Canadian Cottons until ill health forced her retirement. A devoted member of the Catholic Church, she was also a member of the Catholic Women's League and for years active as the executive. She belonged to the Altar Society and League of the Sacred Heart.
Of a family of 11 whose parents came from Ireland, there are but two surviving members, James Purcell and Dennis Purcell, both of Milltown. A niece, Mrs. Page Gray (nee Helen Purcell) of Fairfield, Maine, attended the funeral. Beautiful floral and numerous spiritual offerings marked the esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew here. Se...pieces included those from the Dye House and Weave Room of Canadian Cottons Ltc. (St. Croix Courier, April 6, 1950)
