J. T. McDowell Called To Rest
James T. McDowell, 71, for many years a well known resident of Lafayette, died Tuesday night at 10 o'clock at the family home, 35 South Twenty-ninth street, after an illness of three and a half months. Death was due to heart trouble. Born at Colfax, Clinton county, September 8, 1857, Mr. McDowell was a son of Marion C. and Sarah (Strain) McDowell. He cam e to Lafayette 60 years ago and for the last 15 years had been employed as a tin plater by the Peerless Wire Goods company. He worked there until his last illness.
Mr. McDowell was married 47 years ago to Miss Dora E. Robertson, the ceremony taking place in Lafayette. Survivng are the widow, six sons and two daughters: Albert L., George P., of Lafayette; Edward G., of Indianapolis; William R. and Arthur J. of Lafayette; Leroy of Bedford; Miss Nellie McDowell of Indianapolis and Mrs. Abigail Platt of Estherville, Iowa. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Luther Allen of Lafayette, and Mrs. Henry Arnolds of Seattle, Wash. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family home. The Rev. John D. Lensey of the Free Metodist church, of which Mr. McDowell was a memer, will officiate; burial in Springvale cemetery.
