LaVonne Clauson, age 73, of Brookings, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 19, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 3-6 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons research.

LaVonne Mae (Lunde) Clauson was born September 25, 1930, at Hendricks, Minnesota, to Carl John and Anna (Winsness) Lunde. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1948. On September 7, 1949, she married Lloyd Clauson at Hendricks. LaVonne was a cook at the Hendricks Hospital prior to her marriage. She assisted Lloyd in many business endeavors. Their first business together was running the filling station in Brandt, South Dakota. LaVonne kept books for his plumbing-window-handyman business, and helped install windows. She worked for the South Dakota State University Administration seasonally during student pre-registration.

LaVonne was a member of First Lutheran Church for 50 years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and games, listening to old-time fiddle music, doing Norwegian hardanger embroidery, and traveling. After retirement, LaVonne and Lloyd enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and summers in Brookings.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Clauson, of Brookings; three daughters: Iris (Bruce) Stuart of Yorba Linda, California, Annette Clauson of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Michelle (Gregg) LaRue of Reston, Virginia; two grandsons, Chris and Scott Stuart; two brothers: Wendell (Marge) Lunde of Watertown, South Dakota, and Ron (Jennifer) Lunde of Canton, South Dakota; and a sister, JoAnn (Rodney) Christensen of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and a baby sister, Iris.
