Mahala was the daughter of William and Jincy Mize Lang.

Gone to Her Reward -
Mrs. David Bales was born near Stone Bluff, Fountain co., IN, 13 Dec 1836, and died at her home near Floris, Davis Co., IA, 15 Aug 1908, aged 73y 8m 2d.
She was united in marriage with David Bales in the fall of 1856 and came to Davis Co., IA, a little later. To this union was born eight children, three daughters and five sons. Two children have already preceded their mother to the land of rest. One son, Ira in infancy and one daughter, Eva. She also leaves to mourn her loss an aged husband, two daughters and four sons: Mrs Betty Jackson of Phillipsburg, KS, Mrs Nancy Lang of South Ottumwa, Caleb Bales of Floris, Albert bales of Floris, Noah Bales of Eldon, Ollie Bales of Fairfield, WA.; also three brothers: John Lang of St. Joe, MO; David Lang and George Lang of IL. She united with the Christian church in her early girlhood days and died in the saving grace and faith of our beloved Jesus Christ.
All the children were present at the funeral.
The funeral services were held at the home from which a large company of relatives and friends followed her to her last resting place to await the resurrection morn.
