Charles W. Jaggers was born in Hart County, Kentucky, in 1836, the son of Thomas Inman Jaggers and Mary Ann. He was living with his widowed father in Hart County in June 1850 (US Census). He married Permelia T. Johnson (1835, Hart Co.) in Hart County on September 24, 1856. Charles was 25 years old when he enlisted as a private at Munfordville, Hart County, on August 1, 1862. Private Jaggers was mustered into Company C, 33rd Kentucky Infantry, September 13, 1862. He was transferred to Company I, 26th Kentucky Infantry, April 1, 1864. Private Jaggers died of a gangrene infection at a U.S. General Hospital at Bowling Green, Kentucky, on June 10, 1864. After the war his remains were transferred to Nashville National Cemetery where his gravesite was initially designated O-17. After his death Permelia filed for a Civil War widow's pension December 12, 1864, and received application No. 75,390 (no certificate No. found). A minor child's survivor pension was filed on behalf of Mary September 13, 1867, and received application No. 152,293 and certificate No. 135,067.
