He was born March 3, 1924, in Indianapolis to Charles and Anna DeMott.
Joe served in Africa and Normandy during WWII and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He retired in 1980 after 40 years in sales for various freight industry companies.
His wife, Evelyn Merriwether DeMott, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Tracy Dougherty, Christina Midyette, David DeMott; brother, David "Bud" DeMott; and grandchildren, Joseph DeMott and Lisa DeMott.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, State Road 135 & Olive Branch Road. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009, at the funeral home.
He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
