Ann Virginia West was the only daughter of William and Susanna Waddell West. She had seven brothers. William West was of the old Virginia family of West Point in King WIlliam County. He was an extensive planter and slave owner who had a wealth of influence in the community. Ann married Fielding Hartwell Crump, a farmer of New Kent. He served with the Pamunkey Heavy Artillery during the Civil War.
