Obituary

The community of Port Wade and vicinity were shocked and saddened on Thursday morning, November 15th, to learn of the death of Ansel G. Casey, a highly esteemed resident of this village, who passed away suddenly at his home following a heart attack at the age of 72 years. Born at Victoria Beach in 1879 he was a son of the late Deacon and Mrs. Henry Casey. In his younger days Mr. Casey was captain of various fishing vessels that sailed from the home port. In politics he was a staunch Liberal and served for a number of years as councillor. He was a member of the Port Wade United Baptist Church and a member of the Oddfellows Lodge, Digby. Surviving are his widow. the former Sadie Taylor, Port Wade; one daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Olmstead), wife of Rev. C. T. Olmstead, Caledonia; and one son, Earl Casey, Port Wade. Ten grandchildren also survive and two brothers, John Casey and Roy Casey, Victoria Beach. An only sister, Mrs. Charles Haynes, Victoria Beacha passed away during the past year, and a brother Walton Casey also predeceased him. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Prayers were held at the home, followed by a service in the Port Wade Baptist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. W. Lindsay, assisted by Rev. Neil MacLeod of the United Church. . . . Interment was in Port Wade Cemetery.
