Mr. Clinton Vernie Barlowe, 90, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Mr. Barlowe, a native of Watauga County, NC, was the son of the late V.R. and Eva McGee Barlowe. He was a veteran of World War II, having served the United States Army in the European Theatre. He lived most of his life in Marion, NC and was employed with United Merchants and Wamsutta Textiles for 30 years. In 1977 he started CVB Trucking, from which he retired in 1990.

Mr. Barlowe was a longtime member of the East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was passionate about his involvement with Gideons International and traveled with the Gideons to the Philippines and Hong Kong in 1988.

In 2005, he and his wife moved to Greenville to live near his son and grandson. In Greenville he attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Barlowe loved farming, gardening and horses throughout his life. He was often seen sharing the fruits of his gardening with others.

In addition to his parents Mr. Barlowe was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Duncan Barlowe in 2011; sisters, Florence Mitchell and Anna Lee Lawing; brother, Cecil Barlowe; brother-in-law, Paul Dean Duncan; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Duncan.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Barlowe and wife, Janice; grandchildren, Ryan J. Barlowe and Eva K. Barlowe; sister, Mamie Reel; and sister-in-law, Ruby Lusk.

The funeral service was conducted Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 4 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel officiated by the Reverends Ted Coody and Junior Phillips. The family received friends immediately following the service until 7 pm.

A graveside service was conducted Monday, May 11, 2015 at 4 pm in McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, NC. Family visitation in Marion was Monday from 2 to 3:30 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory, Marion.
