EDITH DALE AHERN

Edith Mary Dale, eldest daughter of Joseph and Tabitha Admire Dale, was born near Norwood, Iowa, Oct. 11, 1881, and died May 17, 1954, at the age of 72 years at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. She had been a patient there over three months with coronary thrombosis.

She came with her parents to Lucas when very young and was a member of the Methodist church there from childhood. She attended the Lucas schools until the family moved to Murray and she was graduated from high school there. She attended Highland Park college in Des Moines and later taught school in Lucas and was principal of the school at Cleveland, Iowa.

On June 17, 1909, she was married to M. L. Ahern at Stanton. Five children were born to this union: Dale of Decorah, Leland and James of Des Moines, Elizabeth Ahern and Mrs. Frank Matthews, also of Des Moines. Her husband died in 1951.

Surviving besides the five children are a sister, Mrs. Ruth Simes of Creston, a brother, Grover Dale of near Chariton and six grandchildren.

Services were at the Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines Thursday, May 20 with the pastor of the Grace Methodist church in charge. Burial was in the Glendale cemetery there.

Note: The remains of Edith and her husband, Michael Ahern were removed from the Glendale Cemetery in 1987 and reinterred in the Grimes Cemetery near Chariton, Iowa.
