L. DALE AHERN
L. Dale Ahern died Dec. 20, 1989 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Mr. Ahern spent his boyhood in Chariton and Ottumwa, and attended Drake University. After a short teaching career, he became one of the best known newspapermen in the state, spending 27 years as editor of the Decorah newspapers.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, John of Des Moines; two daughters, Ann Smith and Susan Lange, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Edith Ahern-Matthews and Elizabeth Ahern, both of Des Moines; a brother, Jimmie, also of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
There were no funeral services. The body is to be cremated, with interment at the Grimes Cemetery, rural Chariton.
