Gerrit Beltman, 89, of Hospers, died Saturday in a hospital in Santa Ana, California.

Services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Hospers Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Thomas Vanden Heuvel officiated. Burial was in the Hopsers Cemetery under the direction of the Andringa Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Mr. Beltman was born April 25, 1895 in the Netherlands where he lived in his youth and attended school. He served in the Dutch Army for 3 1/2 years and came to the United States in 1920. He married Tillie Evink in 1922 at Middleburg. She died in 1976.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Wilma) Bootsma of Sibley and Mrs. Gary (Alice) Wiersma of Hospers; four sons, Tony of Stephensville, Texas, Jim and Bill, both of Granville and Elmer of Sibley; a half sister, Hendrike Meulman of the Netherlands; 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
