He was born south of Protem Missouri in Sugarloaf township of Arkansas. He spent most of his childhood years in the Protem area and graduated from Forsyth High School in 1955.
In 1957 he married Jeanette (Wyatt) and to this union was born 2 children, Keith Davis of Hilda MO and Candi Sims of Taneyville MO.
He had a wide variety of jobs over the years including working for the Ford Dealership in Branson, the Garment Factory, from 1957 to 1964 he worked for Harry McDowell at the Phillips 66 Station in Branson and from 1964 to 1972 he leased and operated the Phillips 66 Station. In 1972 he was elected to the office of Taney County Assessor and while in that term, he headed up the first Property Tax Reassessment Program in Taney County's history. After that he built and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant and later built and operated Davis Auto Repair. He owned and operated the Mountaineer Music Show in Branson for 2 seasons, was elected to two terms as Taney County Commissioner, and afterwards he returned to the private sector where he owned and operated numerous other businesses for several years. In the early 70s, Gilbert and his family started attending church at Riverview Bible Baptist Church in Forsyth MO and later on he served there as a Deacon for several years.
In his past time he enjoyed cattle farming, spending time at the lake, restoring and trading antique automobiles, and he especially enjoyed his many years of attending Blue Grass festivals with his family and friends. He and Jeanette had traveled to all of the 48 continental states and also had gone into Old Mexico and Canada.
