Delpha Berniece Allen, 99, passed away on April 4, 2009 in Lafayette, Indiana. Delpha was born on October 3, 1909 in Stockwell, Indiana to the late William Martin Arndt and Margaret Minerva (Stackhouse) Arndt. On November 30, 1938, she married James Howard Allen in Stockwell, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1960.

After graduating from Stockwell High School in 1927, she taught third grade Sunday school at Stockwell United Methodist Church and played the piano.

In 1960, Delpha started working for the tomato cannery and the tropical fish store for R.E.M.C. in Ossian. Later, she worked in the jewelry department at Miracle Mart in Waynedale.

Delpha was a member of Stockwell United Methodist Church before becoming a member of Elmwood Church of Christ. She was part of the Senior Servants Group and Conroe Ladies Friendship Circle. She enjoyed gardening.

Surviving is a son, William Howard Allen; a nephew, Dennis Bravender; two granddaughters, Melissa Reed and Georgetta Palmer; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Zach.

Delpha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, George Jay Allen; two brothers, Elbert Arndt and Everett Arndt; and one sister, Violet Bravender.
