Edward (Ed) Alig, 59, lifetime resident of the community, died early Monday Morning, Oct. 13, 1975, at Pocahontas Community Hospital after being hospitalized for eight weeks. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of the Parish of the Resurrection of Our Lord, Pocahontas, with Father Paul Alvey officiating. Mr. Alig’s cousin, Father Edward Fandel of Livermore, was also present in the sanctuary. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas. Casket bearers were nephews Jim Slattery, Stephen Alig, Thomas Albrecht, Richard Porath, Norbert Alig and John Alig.
Edward Alig, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Alig, Sr., was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Pocahontas County. He attended the Ware school before entering Sacred Heart School, Pocahontas, where he graduated in 1933. He was engaged in farming for a time, then was an employee of the REA before accepting employment with the Rock Island where he worked for 18 years until ill health forced him to discontinue this work several months ago. He made his home in Pocahontas and was unmarried.
Survivors include three brothers, Clem of Pocahontas, George of Fonda, and Maurice of Palmer; five sisters, Mrs. Francis (Isabella) Slattery of Laurens, Mrs. Don (Eldora) Francis of Palmer, Mrs. Ed (Bernice) Albrecht of Clare, Mrs. Al (Luella) Vodraska of Pocahontas, and Mrs. Harold (Arvilla) Porath of Watertown, S.D., and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norbert, who died in 1929, and Wilbur, who died in November, 1974.
