William's first wife was Wealthy Winslow. They were married on March 21, 1827 in Cazenovia, Madison County, New York and proceeded to have seven children who are documented. She died in 1854 and William then married Betsey (Burgess) McKee on April 15, 1857.

Betsey and William had two daughters, Ellen Elizabeth (b. 1858) and Ermina May (b. 1861).

William died 12 days after Betsey - both in 1863 - their daughters being five and two. The orphaned girls were reared by their half-sister, 24-year-old Satira Fallass.
