She was raised, grew to woman hood in the Sheffield area. She graduated from Sheffield High School and then attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in the rural schools of the Sheffield area.
On February 28, 1926, Laura was united in marriage with Leslie B. Freie at Sheffield. Together they raised a family of four children and farmed in Richland Township of Franklin County. In 1952 they moved to Latimer.
Those left cherish her memory include her husband, Leslie of Latimer, her children; Norma and husband Everett Casperson of Latimer. Verne and his wife Elaine of Newhall, Evonne and husband Wayne Plagge of Latimer and Glen and his wife Jeanette of Latimer, 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, a brother Robert Hovey of Hampton and a sister Eunice Symens of Sheffield.
Her parents and two grandchildren, Linn and Sara Debour, proceeded her in death.
Laura was baptized at Thornton and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Latimer and had held local and zone offices in the L. W. M. L. She had been a 4-H leader in Richland Township.
Her health problems in recent years did not permit her to reach out to friends in her church and community. Her love for people encouraged conversing with many of the soft hearted and reserved persons.
Laura died at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton on Friday morning, August 6, 1993. She had attained the age of 90 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer on Monday morning. Rev. Dennis Arndt officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.
Grandchildren: Randy Debour, Larry, Leland, James, Keith and Curtis Freie and Jaylen Plagge were Casket bearers. Carol Borcherding was the organist and Ronald Symens was the vocalist.
William Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
