DEATH CLAIMS MRS. C. STADLER IN 89TH YEAR
Pioneer Resident Of County 2 Days After Homestead Is Destroyed
Mrs. Catherine (sic) Stadler, 89, widow of Henry Stadler, pioneer resident of
this county and head of a family of five generations, died early today at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Richard Bishop, route 2, Manitowoc. She came to
this county with her parents in 1854.
Mrs. Stadler has been an invalid for over a year, confined to her bed practically
the entire period. Her death occurred two days after the old Stadler homestead
and property, now owned by William Krizanowski, was destroyed by fire Thursday.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Bishop home and at
930 from the Holy Innocents church, with interment at Evergreen cemetery.
Born in Germany
The deceased was born Catherine Mueller in Germany in 1844 and came to America
with her parents in 1854, a year earlier than Mr. Stadler. She was married to
Henry Stadler in this city in 1864 and for 20 years. Mr. Stadler was manager of
the Cooper and Jones sawmills in this section. Later he built and operated the
hotel and dance hall on the town line road five miles north of the city.
Thirty years ago he retired from active business life. Mr. and Mrs. Stadler
celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary here in 1924. Mr. Stadler died
the same year.
Ten children were born to the couple of whom five died in infancy. One son, John
of Francis Creek, and three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Meyer, city, Mrs. Richard
Bishop, route 2, and Mrs. Thomas Meyer, route 2, Two Rivers, survive. There are
also 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stadler was a member of the St. Ann's society of Francis Creek.
The body is to be removed to the Bishop home on route 2 Sunday afternoon from
the Pfeffer funeral home.
