HEINRICH STADLER

MANAGER FIRST LUMBER CO. OF COUNTY DIES
Henry Stadler, Pioneer, Passes Away at Age of 88
Henry Stadler, one of the oldest pioneers of Manitowoc county, who in pioneer
days was the manager of the first lumber company of the county, died at his
home in the town of Kossuth Sunday at the advanced age of 88 years. Mr. Stadler
had been a resident of the county for nearly sixty years and was one of the
most widely known of pioneer settlers. He was manager for the Jones Lumber Co.
at Two Rivers fifty years ago when the company operated as one of the pioneer
firms.
Mr. Stadler's death was sudden and unexpected. He was up and about as usual
yesterday and only last week made a visit to the city and attended to several
business matters.
For many years Mr. Stadler conducted a hotel and dance hall in Kossuth, Stadler's
hall being one of the landmarks of the county and in its day one of the gathering
places for social affairs.
Wedded 60 Years
Mr. Stadler was born in Saxony, November 10, 1836 and came to Manitowoc county in
1855, taking up his home at Two Rivers, July 5, that year. Later he made his home
at Shoto and later established his business about six miles north of the city.
Married April 28, 1864 at St. Boniface church in this city to Katherine Miller,
Mr. Stadler was privileged to live to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of his
marriage, Mrs. Stadler surviving him at his death yesterday. The wedding
anniversary celebration deferred until July 16 was an event attracting much
interest from friends of the couple and they received many congratulatory messages.
Mr. Stadler is survived by four children besides his wife, Mrs. Anna Meyer, Mrs.
Rudolph Bishop, this city, Mrs. Mary Wuellner, Mishicot and John at Kossuth. There
are twenty-four grandchildren and nineteen great grand children.
Funeral Wednesday
The body of Mr. Stadler was brought to this city and taken to Kersten officiating.
Burial will be at Evergreen.
