Lona Owsley, 93, of Roda, went home to be with the Lord on Monday (September 6, 2004). She passed away at her home after a short illness. She was born in Scott County in 1911 and was a resident of Roda for 70 years. She attended Stonega Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cossie Owsley, Sr.; her parents, Andrew and Paralee Reed; several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Cossie Owsley, Jr., Abingdon and Roger Owsley, Roda; five daughters, Berry Bailey, Corryton, Tenn., Phyllis Eldridge, Mark Center, Ohio, Carroll Collier, Hopewell, Sheila Ashmore, Big Stone Gap, and Darlene Owsley, Roda; sisters, Ethel Grubb, Roda and Ardis Dizney, Seminary; 23 grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Nunley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
