Alice M. Nickel, age 88 of Christiana, PA, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. She was the wife of Harry J. Nickel with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage on March 26th of this year. She was born in Christiana, PA daughter of the late Frank W. & Martha Knott Pinkerton. She was a member of the Cochranville United Methodist Church. Alice assisted her husband in the family business Nickel's Mower Service of Christiana for 51 years. She was a graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. She was a Life Member of the Chsristiana Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she also served as secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, traveling with her siblings and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandsons. Surviving are two children: Helen M. Shank of Quarryville, Ronald L. husband of Lynn Snyder Nickel of Christiana, 5 grandchildren and 8 grandsons. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings: J. Wesley, Everett D., James K., Paul E., George W., Herbert W. Pinkerton, Jean P. Leaman, Erma P. Bailey, Grace E. Cauller, Doris P. McHenry. Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, Inc., 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Friday, June 1st at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jane DeFord officiating. There will be a viewing at Shivery Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Quarryville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Christiana Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Alice Beck, 50 West Slokom Ave., Christiana, PA 17509.
