OBITUARY-NORTHWOOD
Arne O. Rye, 81, pioneer merchant and banker at Hanlontown and for many years president of the Worth County State bank at Northwood, died last Thursday at the home of his brother Clarence at Miami Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Lutheran church in Northwood with the Rev. Alf W. Jorgenson in charge.
Mr. Rye was born in Dane Co., Wisconsin Nov. 18, 1869, the oldest child of Ole A. and Kjersti Methus Rye. In 1876 when six years old moved with his family to a farm near Hanlontown.
In 1899 Mr. Rye opened a general store at Hanlontown in partnership with his brother T.O. Rye. He was first postmaster and mayor of Hanlontown.
Mr. Rye married Clara Benson on Dec. 25, 1904.
He had been in failing health for several months. Last December he suffered a slight stroke, but was improving; his death cane suddenly.
Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Surviving him are his two sons,Glenn of Des Moines and Arthur of Miami, his brother Clarence and three grandchildren.
