David Clinton Goodrich, 82, of the Pleasant Valley community northwest of Coyle, OK passed from this life on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, in the Golden Age Nursing Home, Guthrie, OK. The eldest of three children of Roger S. Goodrich and Elsie Mahnke Goodrich, he was born east of Guthrie on August 17, 1929.
David attended Guthrie Public Schools, graduating as a valedictorian of Guthrie High School in 1947. During the Korean War he served his country in 1950-51 as a member of the U. S. Army and was stationed for a short time in Japan. On November 14, 1950, he married Marilyn Joyce Rouse of Pleasant Valley. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, David and Marilyn moved to Stillwater, OK, where their daughter, Brenda Joyce, was born. David attended Oklahoma State University and was employed from 1952 to 1977 at the Central Rural Electric Cooperative. He worked in every department at CREC before serving as office manager for several years.
Noted for his sense of humor and the joy he took in making people smile, David is also remembered for his devotion to his family, church, and community. He served as president of the Stillwater Kiwanis Club and the Jaycees, president of the Rotary Club on two occasions, and chairman of the YMCA Board. Especially important to him was his service as Elder of Zion Lutheran Church, Stillwater. In 1977 David became a broker-realtor. He and Marilyn were owners of Red Carpet Realtors from 1983 to 1990, and in 1988 he served as president of the Stillwater Board of Realtors.
In 1991 the Goodrich family moved to Pleasant Valley to the former home place of Marilyn's parents, Maurice and Maude Rouse. David continued his career as realtor, working for Ochs Real Estate in Guthrie until health problems caused him to retire in 2007. He and his family were active in Zion Lutheran Church, Guthrie, where he served as Elder. His wife of 57 years, Marilyn, died on February 24, 2008, after a brief illness, and David moved to the Golden Age Nursing Home in March 2008.
Preceding David in death were his wife, Marilyn; his parents, Roger and Elsie Goodrich; a nephew, Bruce McEwen; a niece Virginia McEwen Shreffler; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maurice and Maude Rouse, and his wife's two sisters and their husbands, Maxine and Bob Harman and Geraldine and Leon Thomas.
Surviving him are his beloved daughter, Brenda Nivens and husband Gary, Pleasant Valley; grandson Michael Nivens and wife Shannon and grandchildren Kayla and Garrett, Pleasant Valley, and grandson Jason Nivens, Dallas, TX. He is also survived by one sister, Hazel McEwen and husband Kenneth, Guthrie, and one brother, Floyd Goodrich and wife Marvel, Oklahoma City, OK. Also, a nephew, Richard McEwen, and wife Alice, Perry, OK and their son Jake, Stillwater; a niece, Marlene Stangl and husband Joe, Guthrie; cousins Judy Taylor, Guthrie, Jan Taylor Bugby and husband Ed, Edmond, OK, Jeff and Debbie Taylor and daughter Haley, Guthrie, and Bob Fries, Guthrie; and a number of other relatives.
