Cassie Carlstead is the daughter of Christian Carlstead and Mary (Klink) Carlstead. Both parents were from Germany.

Cassie is the sister of:
Sarah (Carlstead) Burton
William. W. Carlstead
Christine (Carlstead) Van Deventer
Florence S. (Carlstead) Allen.

Cassie was a natural born artist and could draw and paint from childhood on. She attended Washington University and learned photography. She ran a photo studio in Salisbury, Missouri where she hand tinted black and white photos. Her mother, Mary Carlstead, helped her at the photo studio.

Cassie also leased the Herman photography gallery in Keytesville, MO for portraits (Source: Ad in the Keytesville Chariton Courier, Friday, November 6, 1903 #40) .
