William W. Carlstead is the son of Christian Carlstead and Mary (Klink) Carlstead.

William is the brother of:
Sarah (Carlstead) Burton
Christine (Carlstead) Van Deventer
Cassie D. Carlstead
Florence S. (Carlstead) Allen

William held a land patent dated 5-10-1907 for Shannon County Township School Land, 80 acres in Township 26N, Range 6W, Land Section 16, Part-South West Quarter of the SW Quarter (Missouri Archives Record).

Marriage and Childen
In the 1900 Census, William "Will" Carlstead reported his residence as Willow Springs, Howell, Missouri. William married Betty (Bettie) (Oldham) Carlstead. Betty is the daughter of John Jackson Oldham (b 1857 d 1907) and Margaret Jane (Simpson) Oldham. Betty and William had two children: Johnnie (Johnny)(b 1892 d 1893) and Karleen (Karlene)(b 4-30-1893 d 10-1-1905).

After Betty passed away, William married Addie Grace (Waggoner) Carlstead (b 4-1-1873 d 11-22-1955). Addie is the daughter of Calvin J. Waggoner and Mary L. (Brigham) Waggoner. William and Addie had one son, Oscar G. Carlstead (b 1902, d 9-13-1947). In the 1910 Census, William reported his residence as Spring Creek, Shannon, Missouri with wife Addie and son Oscar.

Son Oscar G. Carlstead married Mary Catherine Robinson (b 9-18-1908 Fayette, MO, d 3-12-1986 Branson, MO). Oscar and Mary lived at Shannon, MO and later Kansas City (Jackson County), MO. After Oscar passed away, Mary married Maurice R. Stein (b 1892 Ohio, d 1-24-1986 Branson, MO). Mary and Maurice are buried at Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Branson.

WILLIAM W. CARLSTEAD. Among the enterprising, public spirited citizens of Mussel Fork township, the subject of the present sketch occupies a deservedly enviable position. He was born in Randolph county, Mo., June 12, 1867, being the second of a family of five children. Christian Carlstead, the father, was born in Prussia in 1836, coming to the United States when 13 years of age. Mary Carlstead, the mother was born in the Kingdom of Bavaria, June 26, 1830, the daughter of Gotleib P. Klink. When twenty years of age, her parents having previously died, she came to the New World, accompanied by her brother, Philip Klink, locating in Randolph county. It was two years after her arrival, Nov. 1, 1861, that she was united in marriage to the father of our subject. His death occurred November, I8, 1877.

William W. was reared upon a farm and brought up to farm duties. In youth he was given the advantages of a good English education, in the public schools of his native county.

On January 29, 18-- he was united in marriage to Miss Bettie D. Oldham, youngest daughter of John G. Oldham, now deceased. To them have been born one child, Karleen, a bright little daughter, now three years of age.

In 1891, our subject having dismissed farming as an occupation, located at Mussel Fork, where he engaged in the grocery and drug business, and through his excellent business capacity and his genial good nature and affinity of manner has not only built up a large and remunerative patronage, but has won for himself the confidence and esteem of his connnunity.

In addition to the above named duties, Mr. Carlstead performs the duties of Postmaster and Justice of the Peace of his village.
