Cynthia W. Crosier, born 2 March 1818 in Euclid, Cuyahoga, Ohio, died 4 July 1892 in Hopkinton, Delaware, Iowa, aged 74 years 4 months 2 days and was buried 7 July 1892 in Bay Cemetery, Delaware Co., Iowa. On 2 June 1839 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio, she married Caleb Smith, born 4 July 1814 in New Marlboro, Massachusetts. He died 14 March 1861 in Delhi, Delaware Co., Iowa, aged 46 years 8 months 10 days, and was buried in Bay Cemetery beside his wife.
After their marriage they moved to Syracuse, Onondago, New York, until 1849 when they moved to Delaware Co., Iowa with five children. Three more were born in Delaware Co., Iowa which has since been their home.
Many of the old settlers well remembered the devoted labours of Mr. & Mrs. Smith as they co-operated with others in building schools and churches, and in establishing a moral basis for the prosperity which they enjoyed.
