Amanda Crosier, a teacher in Delaware Co., Iowa, was born 27 February 1827 in Euclid, Cuyahoga, Ohio, came to Delaware, Iowa in 1846 and lived in Delhi, Delaware, Iowa. She was a member in the M.E. Church. On 20 January 1856 in Delhi, Delaware, Iowa, she married Renesselaer Eddy, a farmer near Delhi in Iowa about 1859. He ran a grain elevator in Delaware Co. At one time he was a sheriff and a member of the School Board. Amanda was his third wife. They had one son who moved to Portland, Oregon. (Lyman Ingeles Eddy)
Her husband died many years before Amanda, who seldom went from her home after his death. Early 20 February 1896 about four o'clock in the morning, smoke was seen issuing from the windows of her home. Neighbours broke in and smothered the fire with snow. They found Amanda dead upon the floor, and most horribly burned. Near her where she was found were a lamp, a can of kerosene and some kindling, as if she had attempted to build a fire.
She had been in poor health for some time past
