Andrew Crosier, born 9 Aug 1780 in Dedham, Norfolk, MA, baptized 20 Aug 1780 in the same place, died 24 July 1853 in Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa, aged 72 years 11 months 15 days and was buried in Upper Bay Cemetery, Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa. On 2 March 1806 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts, he married Catherine McPherson, born 10 Febraury 1786 in Massachusetts and baptized 22 May 1808 in the Peru Congregational Church, Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts. Catherine, a daughter of Hugh McPherson (born in Scotland), died 24 July 1863, aged 71 years 5 months 14 days in Delaware County, Iowa, and was buried in Upper Bay Cemetery, Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa beside her husband.
In the year 1791, Andrew's father Lieu. John Crosier and family moved to Partridgefield, Berkshire, Massachusetts in time for his brother William to be born there; Andrew was eleven years of age. Later as a young man he returnd to Dorchester where he was married. While here, Catherine gave birth to their first child.
Land records show Andrew made several land transactions. On 9 March 1803 Andrew was the Grantee twice and on 13 September 1814 also. Then on 8 June 1829 on two occasions he was Grantor. He evidently bought land to stay, changd his mind and moved west to Ohio on 1 January 1816 with his father and others, having to resell it later.
Andrew at first settled at Euclid, near his father, in Cuyahoga county, Ohio, where the rest of his children - Cynthia, William, Bradford, Alfred, Amanda and Daniel - were born by 1830, totaling eleven in all. In a few years he then moved to Fremont, Sandusky, Ohio. The Census Records allow one to follow them. In 1820 they are in Euclid. By Census 1830 they are recorded in Lorain County, Ohio, without Daniel who likely was born on 20 July 1830, after the Census was taken.
By Census 1840 Andrew and his family, still at home, are in Ridgeville, Lorain Co. In 1846 he moved to Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa, and settled in what became known as the "Bay Settlement", where both he and his wife lived the remainder of their lives. He was a farmer. He served in the War of 1812-14 under Captain Williams Co., Lieut. Colonel S.K. Chamberlain's Regiment, raised in Adam's, Massachusetts. Service was at Boston, September 14th to Oct 30th, 1814. His brother, Jason Crosier served with him. Andrew's was the first grave in Bay Cemetery in 1853.
The Bay Settlement is located in the southeast corner of Milo Township about five miles southwest of Delhi. Before the Civil War, it was know as Crosier Settlement. William Crosier, with his brothers, Lewis and Bradford and two sisters Caroline Samantha, and Cynthia who married brothers Isaac and Caleb Smith, all lived within a radius of one-half mile of what became the Bay Church. Also living with them was their father, Andrew Crosier. The Crosiers settled at the Bay in 1846. Andrew was a highly respected farmer who worked very hard during his entire life. His children all looked up to him as their mentor, one whose example they all followed, especially his sons, who each served his term in the military just as Andrew had done, whenever called to do so.
