Lloyd was the son of Hansel Girdle Richardson and Mary Esther Dingee. His siblings were Clarence Hansel, Charles Simms Edward, George Vincent, Gertrude Pearl, Oma Leona, Ada Florence, Rosa Marie, Ina Lucille and Waundia Fay.

He married Francis Tarwater on December 10, 1942 in Clay County, Missouri. Their children were Lloyd Dennis, Brenda Joyce, Sharon Rose and Deborah Sue.

His second marriage was to Violet Toothman Mason.

Lloyd served in the US Army during WWII.

Paternal grandparents were Drewery Simms Richardson and Eliza Henson.

Maternal grandparents were David Barrett Dingee and Mary Maria House.
