Charlie was the son of Hansel Girdle Richardson and Mary Esther Dingee. His siblings were Clarence Hansel, George Vincent, Gertrude Pearl, Oma Leona, Ada Florence, Lloyd Drew, Rosa Marie, Ina Lucille and Waundia Fay.

He married Alpha Mae Pointer on December 25, 1930 in Niangua, Webster, Missouri. Their children were Madge Marie, Charles Edward, Mary Ruth, Edward Earl and Dennis Wayne.

His second marriage was to Eva Casteel.

Charlie served in the US Army Tec 5 during WWII.

Paternal grandparents were Drewery Simms Richardson and Eliza Henson.

Maternal grandparents were David Barrett Dingee and Mary Maria House.
