Mary's mother died during childbirth and her father eventually moved from Nebraska with the children to Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma. By 1900, Mary was six years old and now living with the Milton James Ross family. A few years later their son Samuel C. became Mary's guardian and curator moved with her to Laclede County, Missouri.
At the age of 15, with the consent of Samuel C. Ross, she married Hansel Girdle Richardson (28 years of age) on October 9, 1909 in Lebanon, Laclede, Missouri. Their children were Clarence Hansel, Charles Simms Edward, George Vincent, Gertrude Pearl, Oma Leona, Ada Florence, Lloyd Drew, Rosa Marie, Ina Lucille, Waundia Fay and a stillborn infant.
Paternal grandparents were Charles Dingee and Mary Barrett.
Maternal grandparents were Ezra Edward House and Julia Ann Chapman.
