Statesboro, Ga., Nov. 27 - Rufus Simmons, 71, died Tuesday morning at his home in the Hagan district after a long illness. He was the son of the late I. V. Simmons and the late Julia Ann Waters Simmons and was a life-long resident of Bulloch County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucile Johnson Simmons of Statesboro; one daughter, Miss Frances Simmons of Columbus, Ga.; six sons, I. V. Simmons and Thomas Simmons of Statesboro, Malcolm Simmons of Savannah, Murray Simmons of Camilla, Johnson Simmons of Macon, and Robert Lewis Simmons of Dublin; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence with Rev. Dan Williams officiating, assisted by Rev. Ernest Veal. Masonic services will be conducted at the graveside in East Side Cemetery by members of Ogeechee Lodge 213, F&AM. The sons will serve as pallbearers.

Barnes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
